Synergy: Connecting Teachers

On Monday 20/06/2011 the English Teachers’ Union of Serres (TEUM) and the State school advisor Mr Skenderis jointly organised an educational meeting under the title “Synergy: connecting teachers”. The aim was to enable English language teachers working in the primary and secondary education in the region of Serres to share good classroom practices, disseminate their work, exchanjavascript:void(0)ge thoughts and reflect on their experiences and teaching methods. The meeting was held at the premises of the 2nd EPAL of Serres.

Ms Theodora Gkeniou (Lykeio of Pentapolis) gave an alternative suggestion for teaching English in Lykeio. Her school along with schools from five more countries created an international youth e-magazine as part of an e-twinning project over a 9-month period. The development of social, digital and critical thinking skills which are necessary prerequisites in the learning and work environment of the 21st century, the growing role of technology and the emergence of new genres of communication (blogs, wikis, forums etc) as well as the dominance of English as the language of the Internet has led the partners to decide to take up the specific project. A visit to the Tobacco Museum

On December 8, 2010, the junior and senior high school of Pentapolis visited two exciting places. The first was the Tobacco Museum of Pentapolis and the second was the photography exhibition “Kapnomagaza” (Tobacco Factories) by Kamilo Nollas at Pentapoli Serron.
The photo exhibition is a production of the museum of photography of Thessaloniki and diadrasi.org. The exhibition now is presented in Pentapoli Serron and it is held at the new Tobacco Museum of Pentapolis. At the exhibition you can see photos from old tobacco ware-houses at Agrinio, Volos, Kavala, Drama and Xanthi. Part of it is located at the Philarmonic Society of the municipality of Emmanouil Pappas, at a building that was renewed during 2007-2009. This exhibition had previously been presented in Paris, Constantinople, Athens and Thessaloniki.
Afterwards we visited the Tobacco Museum where we were informed how the tobacco started to be cultivated at the end of the 19th century. The stages of tobacco cultivation are:

1.Sowing
2.Transplanting
3.Harvest
4.Santaliasma
5.Pastaliasma

After this procedure, tobacco growers' production was sold to the tobacco merchant and then to tobacco industries where cigarettes are made.

Here in Serres farmers used to plant Basma seeds that produced tobacco with unique aroma and taste. Tobacco was a crops preferred by the local farmers because it was more profitable than corn, wheat etc.

To sum up, both teachers and students were impressed and we recommend you to visit the museum and the exhibition!!

Happy summer holidays from Bulgaria

Although we still have a month to study, we would like to say "Happy summer Holidays to all our partners" It was pleasure to co-operate with you and we all deserve a long and wonderful holiday. If you haven't decided where to go yet, do not hesitate - come to Bulgaria! It is worth seeing and you are welcome!

our impressions

I worked in the project because I wanted to learn more about different cultures and improve my English.
I’m very glad I participated in the creation of the “International Youth e-Magazine” because I learned a lot. The only thing we may improve is the live connection between the students of different teams. I hope you liked working in the project, too.
Kostadin

I joined this project because I was interested in meeting people from other countries. I wanted to learn about the life and interests of people at my age in other countries.
This project was really interesting for me and I enjoyed taking part in it. I hope all of us, who were part of Youth Magazine, had fun working together as I did.
Konstantina

The idea if eTwinning is to unite people from different countries and to give them a chance to communicate and exchange opinions. It’s great that we can talk with other students and learn about their traditions which are new and very interesting for us. This is a safe way to make friends because some of us want to write or talk with foreigners but on the Net you never know who is on the other side. This project also gives us a chance to practice our English.

Music from England

Sorry this is late, but technology failed me so I'm just going to embed Soph and Lauren's choices below with their commentary!

In the UK pop and dance music is really popular and these are a few of our favourite artists:
Firstly we have Bruno Mars, his real name though is Peter Gene Hernandez he is also an American artist, and has been performing music since 2007, but only recently has his music become popular-

Next- Lady Gaga is also an American singer, her songs are always popular, however her dress sense is very odd. She also entered the Brit Awards in a giant egg and headlined at Radio One's Big Weekend festival-

Another American singer, Katy Perry, who is married to British comedian Russell Brand-

Next choice is Rihanna, she is probably the most famous female artist of the moment she won best international female artist at the Brit awards this year

Finally, JLS, this is a pop group which came second in one of Britains musical talent shows known as ‘x-factor’ in 2008

That's the end of Soph and Lauren's choices, but just for the record their teacher much prefers rock music such as My Chemical Romance

Thanks for reading :)

Traditional Dances

Dance!
• Traditional dance.
We started traditional dancing at a very early age. We used to go and learn the local traditional dances and when we managed to dance these, we learned dances from all the country. We have already learned to dance very well. We have done so many performances and we have a great time when we are dancing. In this way we don’t forget our tradition and we learn more things about it. We also dance to local festivals and thus we revive old habits that we don’t know.

• Ballet
We used to go ballet when we were little girls at the age of 4-8.However, in the second grade of Junior High School we had a very good gymnast who was teacher of ballet. So she wanted to make us love the dance and learn some basic moves of ballet. We were excited and we agreed to started lessons after the school program.
We had lessons for two years since we left Junior High School. In these two years we have done a lot of performances.
Through these lessons we learned how important the dance is for our lives. The dance is lifestyle and it’s a way to express your feelings and yourself. It is also a good way to keep fit.

A Metal Ballad

TOGETHER

In the darkest place of my mind
I have so little light
Outside it’s Hell, outside it’s death!
Inside myself, I feel a breath
This is your breath
And your fingers I feel…
And now, when I’ m crying I’ m going to the mid
Of the road and I can see me think
That it’s waiting for me..to go together!

The frozen time kills me again
But I am immortal in my heart
Inside me you want to go
Just see me and be …….
I can’t forget my past,
This moment is the last…
And now, when I’ m crying I’ m going to the mid
Of the road and I can see me think
That it’s waiting for me..to go together!

(“Solo Rock”)

Clouds in the sky
Loud in my ears!
Rain to the sky!
Veins to my neck!
Clouds in the sky
Loud in my ears!
Rain to the sky!
Veins to my neck!

Before I go now!
I have a little wish!
Die in your vow!
Now you must bow!
Now you must bow!
Escape from your prison!
Escape from your dreams!
Escape from yourself!

ESCAPE!

Escape now
To save yourself

ESCAPE!

Escape now
To save your health..

FALSE!

All these promises

FALSE!

All these questions

FALSE!

All these words!

FALSE!

All your f…world!

Bulgarian Folk Dances

My name is Antonio. I'm a dancer in a Folklor Dance Formation "Zagorovche".
I first started dancing when I was only 6. Since then I've never stopped dancing.
Folklore dances are very important for us because they connect the people of Bulgaria with the traditions of our country and they teach us to respect what has been left to us from our ancestors, and to save the heritage for the future. In this way we, the dancers, have become the real connection between the different generations. As modern citizens of the world, we are proud to be descendants of such an ancient nation, we are proud that their blood runs in our veins. Exactly this is the feeling when we stand on the stage and start dancing - tradition, dance, rhythm, music, love.
The Bulgarian Folk music always makes my skin prick, especially when I'm on the stage. It fills me with adrenalin, gives me energy and, what is most important, music is that always reminds me where Bulgaria is whichever part of the world I am. The audience likes the fast dances or the ones which are connected with our history.
For these 10 years our Formation has taken part in a lot, a lot of shows, festivals, concerts, and competitions not only in our country but in whole Europe. We, all members of the Formation, are very good friends and that's the reason to have a great time when we go somewhere together.

Ballet - my passion

Classical ballet is a dance full of beauty. While watching the gentle movements you might feel relaxed and peaceful. The fairy music and the grace of the dance can take you to a magical world full of harmony and happiness. The ballet dancers seem as if they do all this quite easily but the truth is that all the grace and beauty are the result after a lot of hard work and practice.

Bulgarian Pop Music

“Where words fail, music speaks.”Hans Christian Andersen
That’s one of the main ideas of listening to music. Each man likes music. We, the teens, listen to music in order to express our emotions, feelings or just ourselves. I found Bulgarian pop music the closest to me. Its lyrics tell about present trends and also another subjects like love, happiness and many others. You will always find a song which tells about your current state. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myhYZ5q1z3w
I prefer listening to Graffa, Mariya Ilieva, Mariyana Popova and bands as Mastilo (Ink), Ostava and the already former one- KariZma. I like and listen to their songs because they sound nicely, they are performed perfectly and are suitable for dancing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4wOWYtEapA&feature=related
Singers as Graffa, Mariyana Popova and Mariya Ilieva create songs not only for the Bulgarian music market but for the World’s one, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZqpaaF2-GM
In the recent years some young singers, which have participated in Music Idol (the Bulgarian version of American Idol) are making hits. Nora, Magi and Toma are these who are making big progress because of their indescribable talent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBusDeitdpI
I recommend the Bulgarian Pop Music. I am sure you will like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64-dK28y_8o
